FULL TIME POSITION – SUMMARY:
Under specific and general direction, understands timely and cost-effective Die Design and Die Repair services required to meet production needs. Analyzes specifications, lay-out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges and machinists’ hand tools.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains, modifies, and repairs dies and related equipment as required using machinist tools and equipment.
- Studies drawings, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies or assemblies.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators.
- Files, grinds, shims, and adjusts different parts to properly fit them together.
- Conducts test runs with completed tools or dies to endure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
- Lifts, positions, and secures machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates.
- Designs, builds, and maintains dies, jigs and fixtures
- Troubleshoots and repairs tooling problems
- Sets-up and operates lathe, mill, saws and surface grinders.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must complete 8000 OTJ Apprenticeship program hours and 645 classroom hours.
- Excellent attendance history.
- Able to work overtime and weekends as required
- Flexible with shift assignments
- Knowledge of OSHA machine standards.
- Strong technical mathematics background
- Experience in machining, die repair, and die troubleshooting.
- Machine maintenance background or maintenance training and experience.
- CAD/CAM experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this role are conducted in typical manufacturing environment, including exposure to the noise of manufacturing equipment. This role features frequent periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and occasional light lifting of up to 20 pounds. This role may require the use of hand tools and fine manipulation in performing the essential functions of this position.
